Our Story

Welcome to Pershing Middle School, where tradition, excellence, and opportunity come together to create an exceptional middle school experience.

Founded in 1928, Pershing Middle School has proudly served the Houston community for nearly 100 years. Named after General John J. Pershing, one of America's most distinguished military leaders, our school has built a legacy of academic excellence, student leadership, and community pride. Since moving to its current location in 1949 and opening a modern campus in 2007, Pershing has continued to grow while honoring the traditions that make our school special.

Today, Pershing proudly serves approximately 1,000 students in grades 6–8 as both a neighborhood school and a Fine Arts Magnet within the Houston Independent School District. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique talents, perspectives, and experiences that strengthen our school community every day.

At Pershing, we believe every student can achieve success through hard work, curiosity, creativity, and perseverance. Our students have opportunities to excel through rigorous academics, fine arts, athletics, clubs, leadership organizations, and community service. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student feels valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.

Guided by our theme, "Same Heart. New Era.", we honor the proud traditions of Pershing while embracing innovation and preparing students to become confident learners, compassionate leaders, and responsible citizens. Whether you are joining us for the first time or continuing your journey as a Panda, you are an important part of our story—and we are excited to see all that you will accomplish.

Welcome to the Panda Family!
